The concept of holistic health & wellness believes that illness and disease refer to a state experienced by the person, not to something expressed by the physical body.

Each human being has its own nature, its own weaknesses, and each one can be disturbed differently by a similar life experience.

The concepts of disease and health vary according to the paradigm on which medicine is based. A paradigm is a set of explanations and assumptions about reality.

Depending on how the world and its inhabitants are conceived, so will be how one perceives health, what a disease is, and how prevention and treatment should be carried out.

Conventional medicine is a conception based on the old scientific paradigm of materialistic nature, which sees the human being only as a body.

Now don’t get me wrong, there’s no doubt about its usefulness and effectiveness at the molecular and acute disease level. However, we are much more than just a body.

For this reason, conventional medicine has been changing for the past decades and opening up to new possibilities.

Holistic health

The holistic conception of the human being is based on quantum physics, the new scientific paradigm.

It considers the individual as a body unit with the mind, emotional states, relationship patterns, and energetic memories that interact with each other.

From this perspective, health and disease refer to a state experienced by the person, not to something expressed by the physical body.

Genetic inheritance is not a determining factor. Our DNA speaks to us of possibilities, of information developed by our ancestors that we can activate to reproduce their way of living.

If we approach life as they did, perpetuating their daily routines, their mental states, if we get stuck in the same emotions as they did and ingrain their harmful habits, we may manifest similar symptoms or diseases.

The symptom or illness tells us about what is going on in our lives, not just in our physical body.

Although it often expresses itself through discomfort or pain, it is a loyal “friend” that makes us aware of what is going on at our existence’s subconscious level.

Just as healing refers to illness as something that the body manifests, where the subject is passive, and the treatment is external to it, healing is an active process on the person experiencing the symptom or illness.

In addition to resorting to all the appropriate conventional medical treatments, it is about healing life, as the American therapist, Louise L. Hay says.

Stress

Economic situations and generated collective fear contribute to manifest chronic stress in many people.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared that stress is one of the four major causes of death globally. It is related to many symptoms and diseases. It affects all levels of wellbeing.

Nevertheless, stress it’s actually a healthy and natural response to change. It triggers a global reaction that prepares us to act or flee, basically. The problem is when all that tension created as a “survival mechanism” finds no way out and turns against us.

The most important issue is to change the way we live the experience. This is the ultimate factor.

Each one of us has an enormous healing potential, which can be “awakened” and stimulated through energetic intervention, diet changes, life habits, and, above all, in how we relate to ourselves, to others, and existence.

Learning to relax and practicing meditation daily are essential tools. Family and social support, daily exercise, reducing the intake of stimulants, drinking more water, and, above all, bringing ourselves again and again to the present moment also help.

Holistic health and wellness: A lifestyle

holistic health

Holistic health is meant to elevate life to an integral level. Human beings are in a state of greater awareness of their actions and their impact on all levels, both in the relationship with its environment, as in itself.

Living a holistic lifestyle means that you understand that everything you think, eat, practice, and feel reflects something bigger.

This is a philosophy of life that has been practiced for thousands of years in the eastern region.

It leaves us wonderful and transcendental teaching, in which we must look at ourselves as complete beings, unifying our physical, emotional, and mental well-being.

Anyone willing to improve their relationship with themselves and with others, whether they are children, young people, adults or seniors.

The learning curve never ends. Even more so when it’s about an integral understanding of who we are and how we relate to our mental, physical, emotional, spiritual, and social levels.

Start by learning your strengths and weaknesses; honor your inner light and recognize and accept your dark sides (you are both), positive and negative energy like yin and yang.

Start making small changes in your home and environment, your thoughts, your food choices, and your perception of balance. Pay attention to your surroundings; without judging, observe.

Holistic health and wellness, what’s the difference?

So what’s the difference between health and wellness exactly? to answer this, you must first understand the term “wellness.”

And what exactly is “wellness”? It’s a healthy balance between the mental, physical, and emotional levels.

By constantly improving these three spheres, you will achieve total well-being and full happiness.

We often spend our lives living day by day in a great hurry and surrounded by all kinds of external distractors.

Because of this, we forget to live the present moment and enjoy quality time to ourselves, thus leaving aside the importance of caring for our body and mind.

It’s known to all that we are constantly exposed to high levels of stress in our environment. If we’re not physically and mentally strengthened during these times, the threat to our health may translate to different types of conditions and/or diseases much earlier than we would expect.

Taking care of your body is essential for achieving well-being and health

The concept of health is directly related to this point. The World Health Organization (WHO) defines it as “a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being, not just the absence of disease or illness.“

Although this is true, your health maintenance takes place in a state of permanent balance.

Three fundamental aspects correspond to the three levels of well-being defined by the WHO; which, if you decide to implement regularly, it will allow you to enjoy quality health, comprehensively and naturally:

Taking care of your body is essential.

It may sound harsh what I will say next, but depending on how much you love yourself, it is proportionally reflected in how well your body and physical health will be.

Simple habits as drinking water daily, including portions of fruits and vegetables in your diet, and going to preventive health checks are signs of true self-love.

On the other hand, performing physical activities as simple as a vigorous walk for 20 minutes a day greatly strengthens your immune system.

Furthermore, this will activate the release of endorphins, which are directly related to your self-esteem, eliminating stress, and a greater feeling of internal joy.

Cultivating the mind is equally important as caring for your body. Since mind and body are one unit, holistic health can likewise be viewed as an inner state.

Allowing space for connection with yourself, in which you appreciate who you are and what you have. Being aware of your strengths and talents is a powerful protective factor that directly influences your overall health.

As humans, our essence lies in the interaction with other people.

Therefore, it is always a good idea to allow yourselves time for distraction, enjoying friends, family, and loved ones.

Disconnect from problems and cultivate affections that are so necessary to ensure that you are never alone.

Wellness lifestyle

Greater ability to make complex decisions, improved concentration, increased creativity, and stress resistance: are just some of the benefits experienced at work when adopting a wellness lifestyle.

One of the main advantages of adopting a wellness lifestyle is feeling fit and full of energy. The regained energy allows you to overcome fatigue moments and face situations with more vitality: at work, with your family, during your free time.

The psychological benefits of a wellness lifestyle translate into an improvement in mood and disposition.

Regaining balance and being in harmony with yourself is the key to positively relating to your environment and the people you come in contact with.

Present and future health. Wellness provides subjective benefits and has objective effects on the main organs and apparatuses of the body.

This makes it possible to maintain maximum psychophysical capacity over time, laying the foundations for a serene and efficient maturity.
